COURSE CREDIT : Three (3) Units
PRE-REQUISITE : COMPAC1
COURSE DESCRIPTION :
This is an advanced computer course for
business management students that introduce the database management concepts and basic
database operations with the use of database software running in Windows environment. This
course is also designed to provide students with a broad understanding of Internet, and
how Information Technology (IT) and Information System (IS) can be applied in
organizations and business environment to improve efficiency and effectiveness, and the
competitive advantage.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the students
are expected to be able to:
Identify and predict trends in the field
of computing: Comprehend the relevance and impact of new technology to society and its
potential applications.
Explain the principles of a database
management system.
Operate the database software; design and
create simple databases.
Apply the concepts learned in a software
development project, and generate a high quality written report using MS-Word summarizing
the results of their research; present and defend the research paper using MS PowerPoint.
Showcase the results of their hard work;
simulate a presentation to management of a recommend improvement that will help
organization to be more effective.
Develop a Web Page using MS FrontPage.
Develop an understanding of information
systems, their conceptual and technical foundations, users, components, mission and
capabilities.
To build a basic understanding of the
value and uses of information systems for business operations, management decision-making
and strategic advantage; appreciate the competitive advantage can be achieved by managing
an enterprises information system.
Prepare students to use the computer
(information) in solving problems when they become managers.
